Happy Birthday NHS!

Today, 5 July, marks the NHS’ 76th birthday!

The National Health Service (NHS) was founded on 5 July 1948. It now treats more than a million people each day in England. The NHS was the first universal health system to be available to all, free at the point of delivery. Today, nine in ten people agree that healthcare should be free of charge, more than four in five agree that care should be available to everyone, and that the NHS makes them most proud to be British.

To celebrate this birthday, we’ve created a video showcasing just some of the positive feedback we’ve received from our patients over the last year. Our birthday video also contains our activity at a glance over the last year and a reminder of our core values.

The NHS is constantly evolving and discovering new ways of working to enhance the health and care it provides. We are no exception to this and are excited to be launching our renewed development plan today.

This plan has been produced following discussions with both our staff and patients. It is our commitment to the changes we want to see across the organisation over the next five years. We will be sharing more information about our development plan over the next few weeks, so watch this space!
